Launch of Bath community history panels, Beth Israel, Bath, July 20, 2014

Launch of the Bath History Panels and the first exhibition of the Maine Jewish history traveling exhibition

Marilyn and Fred Weinberg, who play such significant roles stewarding and coordinating activities at Beth Israel Congregation, are also unofficial historians for the synagogue and its Jewish environs.

They are working with Amy E. Waterman, a writer and museum professional in Brunswick, ME who authored the initial set of six panels, to create the panels.

Nathan Cogan, whose family maintains long ties to Bath, is assisting with outreach for materials and by supplying extensive personal history.

The themes for the two new panels will be about the community and history of Beth Israel (including forerunner congregations), and the Jewish merchants of Bath.

The group is also discussing the possibility of a supplementary display of artifacts at the Synagogue or an adjacent cultural institution, and ways to provide access to more historical and genealogical information onsite and/or online, in order to take advantage of Freds remarkably thorough research efforts.

If you possess objects, photographs, or stories that might be relevant to the exhibition, please be in touch with Amy: aew.writes@gmail.com or 207-725-6601.
