My grandfather, Robert Barnstone, did not take his life in Las Vegas. It was Colorado Spring, Colorado. He's buried there. --Aliki Barnstone

The Lempert sisters

circa 1922 - private collection

Thank you to Kenny Nelson for the photo

Note:
Dora Lempert is on the left; younger sister Jane is on the right. They had a brother named Joe Lempert (who eventually took over ownership of the Lewiston jewelry store started by brother in law Robert Barnstone. ) Lempert were an early Jewish L/A family. Dora Lempert married Robert Barnstone and eventually moved to NYC. Barnstone was a flamboyant and high stakes fellow who had huge ups and huge downs. A traveling man! He took his own life in Las Vegas . They had two sons, Willis who is still alive, a Greek and Religious scholar, at Indiana and then University if California who has published at least 50 scholarly as well as historic books , articles, and memoirs , and younger brother Howard Barnstone who was a very accomplished but emotionally fragile architect, partnering with Phillip Johnson on several national projects , and best known for his own design, The Rothko Chapel in Texas: Ken Nelson
