HARRY COHEN : OBITUARY


 
Harry Cohen, 84, died Dec. 24, 1982, at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Bailystock, Russia, June 2, 1898, the son of Lazar and Leah Cohen. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War I and a member of the Auxilary Police in Bangor during World War II. Mr. Cohen was founder and president of the Bangor Beef Company. He was a member and past president of Congregational Beth Abraham and the Chivia Kadisha Committee, member and past president of the B’nai B’rith Chapter, the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 244, Penobscot-Oriental Lodge No. 71.0.0.F., both of Bangor, member and past president of the Maine Meat Packers Association and the Jewish Senior Citizens. Surviving two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Solzman of Bangor and S. Elizabeth Cohen of Boston, Mass.; one son-in-law, Robert Solzman of Bangor; one grandson, Phillip Solzman of Gloucester, Mass.; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca (Striar) Cohen in 1974. Funeral services were held Sunday, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor with Rabbi Henry Isaacs officiating. Interment was in Beth Abraham Cemetery, Bangor. Memorial week will be observed at his residence, 59 Parkview Avenue, Bangor. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to a charity of their choice.
