HOWARD L KOMINSKY -- OBITUARY

 
Bangor-Howard L. Komisky, 65, a Bangor dentist for 33 years, died Monday, Jan. 21, 1980, at a Boston hospital. He was born April 24, 1914, in Bangor, son of Max and Minnie (Ginsberg) Kominsky. He attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School. He was a graduate of Bowdoin College and Tufts College of Dental Medicine. He was a major in the U. S. Army Air Corps Dental Service. Following his military duty, he set up a dental practice in Bangor, working until his retirement in October, 1979. He was active in numerous civic organizations, religious activities, charitable and educational efforts and was a member of the board of directors of Depositors Trust Co. of Bangor, Maine Dental Association, serving as a chairman of the ethics and grievance committee, Penobscot Valley Dental Society and American Dental Association. He was a former president of the Jewish Community Council of Bangor, former chairman of the patrons of the fine arts at the University of Maine at Orono, former chairman of the Bangor Dental Clinic, former member of the Bangor Water Board, former member of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce and past chairman of the United Jewish Appeal Bond Drive. He also belonged to the B’nai B’rith Pine tree Chapter, Zionist Organization of America, Dental health advisory committee of Bangor Community College which he also chaired, Beth Abraham and Beth Israel synagogues, board of education of Bangor Hebrew School and was past treasurer of Hebrew Academy of Bangor, Bangor Lions Club, Jewish War Veterans, corporator of Eastern Maine Medical Center, and member of the advisory committee to the dean of Bangor Community College. He was instrumental in the creation of the school of dental hygiene at Bangor Community College, and set up a scholarship fund for the students and faculty of the dental hygiene school. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Striar) Kominsky of Bangor; his parents of Bangor; one son, Norman of Bangor; one daughter, Barbara Burry of Denver, Colo., four grandchildren, Julie and Andrew Kominsky of Bangor, Melissa and Michelle Burry of Denver. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Jewish Funeral Chapel on Center Street in Bangor with Rabbi Henry Isaacs officiating. Memorial Week to be observed at the family residence, 137 Poplar St. Friends who wish may contribute in his memory to Youth Aliyah or Eastern Maine Medical Center, 489 State St., Bangor.
