SARAH S STRIAR -- OBITUARY

 
Bangor – Sarah S. Striar, age 88, of 147 Poplar Street, wife of the late James Striar, died September 11, 1981 at her residence following a long illness. She was born in Melnicer, Russia, July 15, 1893, daughter of Louis and Rebecca (Morris) Schoenbaum. She was a member of the Congregation Beth Abraham and Congregation Beth Isreal, Hadassah, B’nai Brith, ORT, the Auxiliary of EMMC and St. Joseph’s Hospital, the United Cancer Group, Yeshiva University Auxiliary and numerous other local civic organizations. She was a founder of the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Surviving are three sons, Louis Striar, Bangor; Bernard Striar, South Orange, N.J., Max Striar, Bangor; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Kominsky, Bangor, and Mrs. Donald (Sylvia) Menaker, Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Sunday at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor. Interment will be in the Beth Abraham Cemetery. Friends who wish may contribute in her memory to the Hebrew Academy of Bangor in care of the Jewish Community Center, Somerset Street, Bangor or to a charity of their choice. Memorial week will be observed at her home, 147 Poplar Street. Arrangements by Brookings-Smith.
