RABBI DAVID BERENT

LEWISTON, Me., Feb. 20

Rabbi David Berent, retired spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Jacob, and former rabbi at Beth Judah Synagogue, Wildwood, N.J., died yesterday at Deerfield Beach, Fla.

He was 73 years old.

Rabbi Berent was a native of New York City and was graduated from the City College of New York. He also held degrees from Teachers College at Columbia University. He was ordained at Yeshiva Etz Chayim, Montreaux, Switzerland, in 1933 and came to Lewiston in 1940.

Rabbi Berent was president of the Rabbinical Association of Maine, and served for many years as chairman of the Maine Panel of Mediators for Labor Disputes.

A funeral service will be held here Sunday afternoon.
